The pain that words can't describe...

“I am going to get a lawyer,” I shouted. I kept screaming that I would walk out of the marriage. What followed this statement was him hitting me in my face.  Everyone was watching. Our children were watching. My mother was watching. My sister was watching. My brothers were watching. Tell me, have I been Americanized for wanting justice? Have I been Americanized for choosing to leave an abusive marriage?”

I remember this conversation with him before I left Nigeria. I remember the many times he personally threatened to leave me, despite that he was the one breaking our vows countless times.

Today, I wish to teach you about physical abuse. I recorded a YouTube video and Podcast on physical abuse.

It is a year after this very painful experience, and I feel happier, and more fulfilled because I have done everything I thought I would not be able to do.
