My First Job in America
If you are looking for an international job offer, read this closely!!!
I know many people, who line up on #LinkedIn daily, looking for jobs.
In fact, the first time I heard that I was going to be paid $22 an hour, I screamed!
When I got my #job #offer, that came with my first scholarship position at the University of Alabama, I was excited!
I was excited because, I felt that $22 or the $1500 I was being paid monthly as a graduate student, was a lot of money.
No, it is not, and I will break this down for you.
If you live in the suburb, or a very cheap location in the United States, you will pay, on the average, $500-600 for rent.
If you are paying anything less, you are probably going to be living in a hole- or some very shitty place. Haha, like for real.
If rent takes about $600 or so, you will pay about $200 for utility bills, such as water, sewage, gas, electricity, phone bill and internet bill.
If you add that to the $500 0r $600 low income rent, you really do not have much.
Now, we have not added groceries, or transportation; and if you are lucky to have CTA, you will spend close to $80 a month on #CTA pass/ventra card. Now, this is a lot!
Let me move up a little, and let’s imagine that you get a very good job, that pays you $5,000-$10,000 a month.
Your taste will be different; you will probably live in a fancier place, and your utility bills will be higher;
Your job will mostly take so much of your time, and will require alot of travelling or endless meetings, that may cause you to be sedentry.
What is my point?
Living abroad, may be exciting when you are planning to come in, but once you are in the system, the system just reels you in, like an addictive medicine, such that you are either paying bills every time, or you are using your time to get more money, that is never enough.
Later today, I will share some stories with you.
I will tell you about the job offers I got, and the experiences I had.
