HOW I PUBLISHED MY FIRST FULL PAPER
I hate graduate school for one thing: they make you write lots of reaction papers, reviews, or even complete a research proposal, and I find it sickening that they don’t make you complete actual research from idea to the full paper.
Well, that would mean one won’t be able to do well in other courses. Haha.
Do you also think about this? Cos, I feel like I am the only one who thinks about this.
Well,it is what it is!
Here are the top three recommendations I will offer you as you plan to write your first research paper.
Collaborate. Find someone whose research interests intersect with yours, and collaborate to complete this work. If you can’t find a young professional like you, collaborate with your mentor.
Read only abstracts. So, I used to waste time reading an entire paper until a mentor told me to focus on reading the abstracts to finish my research quickly. The abstracts give a general sense of the research paper. Are you following?
Invest in Research Tools. Yes, you are not writing a research paper with pen and paper, so you should invest in plugins or tools that can enhance your work. Grammarly is one tool or plugin that can help you! MyBib is a citation generator that helps you find the proper citation for a source you include in your reference. As a bonus, let me add that you should begin writing your reference from the beginning.
Do not wait until your paper is done before filling up your reference section.
Why should you open several tabs, check several sources, and not add them to the reference section as you go? Believe me that is a recipe for disaster, lol!
