Theme of the week: What are mobile skills?
This week, I will write to you about what mobile skills are.
Let me tell you a story. I graduated in 2013, and like many fresh graduates, I thought I would land a good job owing to good grades. Well, graduating with a degree in Classics did not seem to help things either. I mean, who cares about the gods and goddesses of ancient Rome in Nigeria?
Back to the point. I was excited that I would begin to take home $30 monthly as a corp member until things got better. I would count the days of the month, waiting patiently for my allowance from the federal government. Something happened in a particular month. The budget did not come in on time. I was going to die. I had plans!
The allowance came in steadily in subsequent months, but the money was never enough. It was at this point I realized I needed a transferable skill. I started to learn how to sew. It was a frustrating experience for me as a lefty because the scissors made things difficult. I suffered! But I did not stop. I am not a professional tailor today, but even as a coach, I can fix my dress if I give a TEDx talk and it gets torn. You need mobile skills.
This week, I will teach scholars what mobile skills are. I will do so on my Podcast and Youtube channel.
