Week 2 Theme: Why Do You Need Mobile Skills?
Would you like to know why you need a mobile skill(s)? Open fast.
The story continues abundance tribe. I continued to learn how to sew as I said last week. I even sewed my fingers on many occasions and would bleed terribly. But I kept improving on my sewing. I made some good money. I got some loyal customers, but you see, I wanted more as time progressed. I would spend several hours sewing and still be far from getting done. It was exhausting.
I then began to think. The exact hours spent sewing just one dress could be spent creating a knowledge product in this niche. I realized that I could have ventured into teaching sewing as a skill while I outsourced my sewing jobs to other people. I did not receive this clarity then. I left sewing again as I was becoming bored. I wanted to start a soap-making business. Lol! But I did not.
Here is a picture of me who tied my gele, made those accessories and the dress I had on.
A few years after, I started making head accessories using unique fabrics made from African yarn (Asoke). This was a noteworthy venture as there weren’t many who could do this then. I was ridiculed and called names. They did not understand why someone who finished with distinctions( graduated summa cum laude), would become an Autogele vendor.Â
I knew I needed these skills. I got another job at a Catholic seminary, but the pay wasn’t enough. This mobile skill made me more( even though I didn’t call it that name then). I would make one Autogele for 3k ($3), and if I make 20 in a month, I could pay my entire one-month salary from the Catholic seminary. It took about 2 hours to make one headpiece, and it took 20 hours to make ten pieces. On the contrary, I would spend 8 hours daily, five working days a week, and by the end of the month, I will take $60 home.
This week, I will discuss why you need a mobile skill as a scholar on my Podcast and YouTube channels.
