Hi dear scholar. So, in this newsletter, I am gonna share with you something different.
What you don't know, will limit your thinking.
Contrary to general beliefs, there is more than you know. There is an abundance of everything.
Let me tell you a story.
Before I came to the United States, my awareness was limited with regards to getting fully funded. In 2014, I doubted the chances that I could go to study abroad. I had doubts, but I kept searching.
In 2019, I believed I could get fully funded because I got am assistantship offer.
In 2022, my perception expanded and I dreamt bigger. I wanted to go to The University of Chicago (a world class and highly ranked school) with full funding.
That is a huge step- but this time, I didn't want an assistantship. I wanted free money that wouldn’t require that I do assistantship work, but concentrate on studying and working a job I choose. Assistantship won't give me that luxury.
Now in 2023, I discovered there are funding for survivors of domestic violence, and that is why @idey.foryou, we won't relent, until we raise more 6figures fully funded survivors who receive the money they deserve for education or for financial freedom. We want to create more #6figuressurvivors.
I hope your awareness increases with what am showing you today.
Let’s begin with this week’s series.
As I said, identities are what make us different from others, and they can come with funding opportunities. Even though we may assumed that they can be to our disadvantage, no they can open doors unto us.
The first identity-based funding is for survivors of domestic violence. One of such is The Women Independence Scholarship Program (WISP) is a kind of funding for women survivors of intimate partner abuse.
Some funding opportunities are specifically for women. If a woman is a primary provider, she can qualify for a scholarship, such as the Soroptimist scholarship.
Let us talk about funding opportunities for members of the LGBTQ community. These are funding opportunities for people who identify as gay, bisexual, transgender, or of other genders/sexualities. There’s a ton out there but there are others for domestic and international students alike.
Let me also mention that people in certain fields or major also receive funding uniquely for those in those fields.
For instance, there are funding specifically for folks looking to get a Ph.D. in the field of social work, molecular biology, or other specializations.
In fact, some funding types are only accessible to students looking to study law.
In conclusion, I will share about funding opportunities for first-generation students or students who are the first in their families to ever go to college or university. I am a first-generation student myself. Lol, I am not only the first child, am also the first in my family to go to college.
I talked about funding based on needs in my book: Fully Funded: The secrets to studying abroad for free!
