I guess this is the question you have been thinking of asking me. Maybe not.
Maybe you are just wondering how you can use your lived experience to enhance your application.
Here is the tip I want to share this week:
The experience is not what gets you funded but what you have done with that experience.
For instance, one of the survivors in our coaching community once asked:
“How do I use my story in my application?”
My answer: You use your story by describing how that lived experience became a motivator for your academic or career plan and which became the reason, you decided to pursue the degree you are applying to. Again, do not overshare. This is not a creative writing exercise; they don’t want to read your biography in an admission essay.
“What if I don’t even have a story?”
My answer: We all have a story, and if you sit down and do a brain dump, you can find the relevant one for your application. I already wrote in a previous episode how to build an application story.
Read it here. https://open.substack.com/pub/ideyforyoufullyfundedschool/p/i-am-struggling-what-should-go-into?r=1mcp1x&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
There is even a video on it on my Youtube channel.
“What if I have not done anything with my lived experience?”
My answer: Actually, you have done something or still doing something. You are probably not taking note. An example is if you write an article weekly sharing with people or groups based on your lived experience. That is impact, based on your experience. Another example could be that you are even serving at a local church, group, or other organization, where you are making an impact based on your lived experience; your story is that you are an orphan, and you volunteer for an orphanage. That is, you are doing work based on your story.
If you are currently applying, and need useful tips, watch this video.
I have opened a preorder for my book, Fully Funded. If you preorder, you get to join a closed Whatsapp list and a private telegram support group with an assigned coach, who will provide you with weekly prompts.
